Demo Video: Live iPhone 3G Unlock ‘Yellowsn0w’ by Dev-Team

As previously reported “iPhone 3G will Unlock in the New Year!“ on last week, the iPhone dev-team has announced they’ve figured out how to unlock the iPhone 3G for use on any GSM network you have in your country. The patch will be released on New Years Eve and will require an iPhone that is running 2.11.07 baseband or lower and will have to be jailbroken.

The team has set the release day of their free unlocking tool for New Year’s Eve 2008 (so you just have to wait 8 more days to try it yourself ). As they warned before, the unlock is only for the iPhone 3G with a baseband of 2.11.07. To figure out which baseband you have, simply go to Settings-> General-> About-> Modem Firmware.

The enteire process required just 10 seconds! In these few days, they will set up a new repository in Cydia (which means you will need to first jailbreak your iPhone) and by the Dec 31th, 2008 we will be able to download a little application “yellowsn0w” that will run the script and unlock our Phones.  The unlock will be released New Year’s Eve!
